If you follow the books/show you will understand the why of this illustration series. Getting closer to the latest book/season, the leadership and endurance of women is noticeably highlighted. This, together with the fact that the show takes place in a Middle Ages world, is unusual for the era.

The illustrations represent the most relevant noble houses by showcasing their women leaders and their animal representation.
