Design for Good

Design For Good

— WWF Overfishing Campaign

In the spirit of First Things First (1964 & 2000) we as designers have the responsibility and opportunity to use our talents to raise awareness of an issue, to encourage debate and ultimately to promote change.

For centuries, people have regarded the ocean as an inexhaustible source of food, too vast to be affected by anything we do. But in fact, a new report on the health of the ocean finds that the marine vertebrate population has declined by 49% between 1970 and 2012, including the extinction of many species.

This coffee cup design aims to raise awareness for a WWF overfishing campaign. Integrating overfishing consequences into fish shapes it looks like they are telling us what is happening to their ecosystem. The copy-line makes the word ‘extinction’ stand out, a word that catches attention just for the meaning that it involves.
